It is time to rally again in honor of Coach Dick Tharp’s legacy. This year, the Dick Tharp Memorial Football Golf Outing expands its support to include both Normal Community High School Ironmen Football and Normal Community West High School Wildcats Football.
One Legacy. Two Programs. Greater Impact.
For the past several years, this outing has proudly raised funds in support of Normal Community High School Football, honoring the influence Coach Dick Tharp had on generations of Ironmen players, families, and coaches.
In 2026, the mission grows. We are opening the outing to include Normal Community West High School Football as well, bringing both Unit 5 high school football programs together under one community-minded purpose: honoring Coach Tharp’s legacy while investing in student-athletes, leadership, character, and opportunity.
This year is especially important. With The A-Train bringing additional scholarship support to the table, the outing has an even greater opportunity to bless students and strengthen both football communities. The goal is simple: make this event more inclusive, more impactful, and more reflective of the full Unit 5 football family.
About Coach Dick Tharp
Coach Dick Tharp’s influence on Central Illinois football stretched far beyond one field, one season, or one school. His legacy helped shape generations of players, coaches, families, and football programs across Unit 5 and beyond.
This year’s outing honors that larger story as we support both NCHS Ironmen Football and NCWHS Wildcats Football.

The 6th Annual Dick Tharp Memorial Football Golf Outing is officially underway for 2026.
Join us for the annual Football Golf Fundraising Event. We are proud to team up with The A-Train and Toys For Tots McLean County to raise support for local football, scholarships, and the student-athletes who carry forward the values Coach Tharp lived and taught.
Funds raised will support the legacy of Coach Dick Tharp, scholarship opportunities, and the continued encouragement of football excellence, leadership, and character within both NCHS Ironmen Football and NCWHS Wildcats Football.
We welcome returning sponsors, new sponsors, golfers, alumni, families, local businesses, and volunteers to take part in this year’s expanded outing.

- $125 per golfer / $500 per foursome includes golf cart plus 1 FREE drink ticket

2025 Event Recap
The 5th Annual Dick Tharp Memorial Football Golf Outing was a tremendous success. Held on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at El Paso Golf Country Club, the day brought together 17 teams of alumni, supporters, and friends in celebration of Ironmen pride and the lasting legacy of Coach Dick Tharp.
The outing was spearheaded by a crew of former NCHS players deeply shaped by Coach Tharp’s leadership, including Kevin Franz Class of ’87, Mike “Goody” Goodwin ’87, Jerry McBurney ’86, Mike Bozarth ’88, Kirk Brandonburg, and Kenton Frost, Coach Tharp’s grandson.
Highlights of the day included:
- Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive contests
- A silent auction featuring local donors
- A chance to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one on the 9th hole
- A delicious pork chop dinner sponsored by The A-Train
Each year, the outing has helped sponsor a scholarship for a graduating Ironmen football player who demonstrates leadership, character, and scholastic dedication. In 2026, with expanded scholarship support and the addition of NCWHS Wildcats Football, the outing is positioned to serve even more student-athletes across Unit 5.
